Did anyone watch the Hasan Minhaj’s White House correspondents’ dinner speech this week? His burns were just so painfully terrific that his monologue deserves rewatching. (The audience, however, apparently didn’t think it was that brilliant.)
This week, we had a model decked out to the nines, resplendent with a shimmering gold hat-thing and a gauzy black dress and a seriously bedazzling necklace. But what was most impressive was her facial expression – she was smiling the entire time. Speaking from personal experience, smiling is so much more painful than frowning when holding for a pose. You start to fade into that weird uncanny valley and your smile becomes more of a grimace than an expression of joy. Unfortunately, I caught her facial expression in one of those pained moments, before she somehow miraculously recovered (!) and was once again serene.
I think she must have been a flight attendant in her past life.
This weekend, I may or may not have gone a little overboard with baking (Mexican wedding cookies, coconut brownies, pain d’epices/french honey and spice bread). I also gave in and finally bought chocolate from Socola after eyeing them for the longest time because… I lasted a week, okay? (If we’re not counting cocoa powder, that is.) Despite my Poor Student Budget I HAVE NO REGRETS.
