Happy first week of summer – it’s been a while! These past few weeks have been slightly busy. My life is currently as interesting as a snail’s crawl, sans slime, so instead, I present (no pun intended) a late ode to my wee sister’s birthday at the beginning of this month. I still think she’s sixteen most of the time. Or thirteen. Fairly certain she’s five. Probably two.
I love my sister almost as much as I love chocolate. Since I can remember, we’ve been more like best friends more than we’ve been sisters, even though sometimes I feel the need to strangle her with her own sweatpants, or the PE shirts she kept stealing from me in high school because they’re always on the ground. (You know what I’m talking about, Daisy – WHERE IS THE FLOOR) Whereas I’m told I’m like slightly neurotic like Anger from Inside Out (I AM JOY. JOY!), my sister is more like Disgust in every sense except for the actual word: always fashionable, eyelashes curled to the nth degree regardless of how late she is, whip-smart, slightly too-cool-for-school, a little nerdy. Complete with Mindy Kaling’s voice acting.
For me, my sister is the gap-toothed kid who believed me when I told her “potato chips taste better when I’ve tried them out first,” the teenager always determined to buy me clothes whenever I go home “because you need new clothes!!!!!!!” and my Young Adult book librarian who shoves novels by Sarah J. Maas in my hands while shouting (actually), “put your old person book away and read this one nowwwwwwwwwwww.”
