So, I started watching Rick and Morty, and I don’t think I’ve shut up about it this entire week to my friends about how good it is. Doesn’t seem that I’ve completely oversaturated them yet, because none of them have told me to stop talking about it. But most of them are just too nice to do so. Honourary Canadians.
It’s just. So weird! And smart. And existentialist. Did I ever think that I would like a cartoon about an alcoholic, nihilist grandfather who burp-talks and his very-easily-distressed grandson?
Best quote so far: “Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. We’re all going to die. Come watch TV.”
(I resonate strongly with that statement.)
The season’s last figs are upon us, so I’m squeezing as much fig-related food out as much as humanly possible, however, just like with the peaches, I end up eating most of the figs before I can decide what to do with them. No one is surprised at this point, neither me nor the figs.
In preparation for Inktober, I’m sketching more traditionally. Here are this week’s quick sketches. One of Mark Hamil channeling his inner Ser Davos Seaworth, and the other of Ciri, from The Witcher (a video game). My first exposure of The Witcher was actually when it first came out – my sister, brother, and I were in my brother’s room: my sister and I reading on his bed, he at his computer, when suddenly I heard this incredibly malicious sound emanating from the computer speakers. My sister (seven at the time?) hightailed it out of the room to find solace in my grandmother’s soap opera, but I refused to leave because unless I knew what was making the sound, the ambiguity of whatever it was would have been endless. Happy to admit that my imagination ran rampant, even then. I peered at his screen, and I saw Geralt (the anti-hero), completely demonic, on the screen, and I gave a little relieved shriek and ran to join my then-tiny sister and grandmother. But I suppose the joke was on me, because the graphics were so well done that I had to look it up… albeit six years later.

EDIT (09/25/17): Just found out that Mark Hamil’s birthday is TODAY. (!!!)
