Ok, so the apple pie I mentioned last week? I made it. And I’m now a convert.
In fact, I was so surprised at how much I like it that I texted my sister about it, and here is a direct transcript of that conversation:
Me: I made pie
Her: WHAT PIE
Me: Apple pie
Her: ew.
Her: I hate apple pie.
Me: *wow, is this dislike genetic????*
Me: *sends picture of the pie*
Her: WOW THAT’S ARTSY (referring to my leaf decorations) but I still hate apple pie.
Essentially, that conversation went nowhere despite the incredibly flakey crust, and quickly derailed into her trying to convince me to watch multiple TV shows. My sister is neither #TeamCake nor #TeamPie. She’s like the Green Party (sorry) – #TeamFudgeBrownieZappedInTheMicrowaveFor30SecondsAndToppedWithWhippedCreamFromACan or #TeamMoltenLavaCakeAndNothingElse. She also believes that I only bake things when she’s not around, which is actually… quite… true?
It’s a week until Thanksgiving break, which means students across campus are pushing through their final midterms. Sweatpants are abound. Sleep may be nonexistent for some. The library is crammed with students pulling at their hair strand by strand or taking needed naps in their cubicles. Coffee becomes the de facto currency. Professors see a sea of faces that are trying not to nod off. (My Behavioral Endocrinology professor: “You guys are dragging. And so predictable this time of year. Go take a lap!”)
I exaggerate slightly.
To prepare thyselves, next week I’ll be short guide on how to really go ham during a food marathon.
This week, please enjoy a sketch of our awesome lab tech, Rachel.
